Naming a drink is only half of a café conversation. A staff member may confirm temperature, quantity or whether you are staying. Begin with an order card containing three details: hot Americano, one cup, takeaway. Practise giving each detail clearly before adding more choices.
A short original exchange
손님: 따뜻한 아메리카노 한 잔 주세요. — Customer: One hot Americano, please.

Split the order into useful parts
따뜻한 + 아메리카노 + 한 잔 + 주세요 gives the temperature, drink, quantity and polite request. 한 잔 means one cup; 두 잔 means two cups. With the counter 잔, use 한 and 두 rather than leaving 하나 and 둘 unchanged.
For an iced Americano, try 아이스 아메리카노 한 잔 주세요. Change only the temperature first. In another round, change the quantity. One variable makes it easier to identify whether a particular word is unfamiliar or the whole sentence still needs practice.
Understand the question before responding
When you hear a question involving 가지고 가세요, first recognise the task: the staff member is checking where you will have the drink. For staying, you can say 여기서 마실게요, “I’ll drink it here.” For takeaway, 가지고 갈게요 gives the other choice.
If you miss the question, use 다시 한번 말씀해 주세요, “Please say that one more time.” Confirming a key word is more reliable than nodding without understanding. During practice, ask your partner to vary the question so that you do not learn only one fixed script.
Expand the task in two rounds
In the first round, complete the order and keep the drink, quantity and takeaway choice consistent. In the second, add a simple request such as 물도 주세요, “Some water too, please.” An example sentence does not promise that every shop offers the same service; follow the actual café’s rules.
Then swap roles. Ask whether the other person is staying and listen to their answer. This checks understanding of the whole exchange, not just your ability to recite the customer’s lines.
Keep common shortcuts in perspective
주세요 is useful, but you cannot attach it blindly to every word to request any action. Begin with noun requests, then learn the appropriate verb request forms. Do not invent Korean translations for drink names either; when ordering, the actual menu is a better reference.
Avoid adding size, sweetness, milk type and payment method all at once. Complete one drink order, then add a condition that matters to you. A small successful exchange provides something specific to repeat.
